Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Nags Head

The Outer Banks is a group of barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina. Hundreds of thousands of people visit each year to experience the wonderful island life that is filled with fun, laughter, and lots of sunshine. There are several different areas on the island such as Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Manteo, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon Buxton, Frisco, Ocracoke, and Hatteras Island.  Deciding where to visit and what to do can be difficult. However, some areas have more to offer for kids than others. A crowd favorite to visit when traveling with kids is Nags Head. WE have put together a list of our favorite things to do with kids in Nags Head.

Jockey’s Ridge State Park

A day at Jockey Ridge State Park is a perfect way for the family to sit back and relax, but also be a part of watersports and even a little learning too. The state park features the tallest natural sand dunes formation on the East Coast.  While it may seem like a simple detail of the area, it may be your kid’s favorite thing to play on, especially if they roll down them.  The dunes never blow away because the competing Northwest and Southwest winds keep them in place. Aside from the dunes, they offer small group clinics that take part in kayaking, crabbing, kite-flying, and nature walks. Kayaks are available to rent within the park.
